Full Descriptions:

โœ…Cusco Cathedral

Located on the Plaza de Armas, this majestic cathedral was built atop the ancient Inca palace of Viracocha. Itโ€™s a masterpiece of Andean Baroque architecture and houses over 300 paintings from the Cusco School, gold-leaf altars, and the famous โ€œBlack Christ.โ€ A visit here blends history, art, and spirituality at the heart of the imperial city.

โœ… Qoricancha โ€“ Temple of the Sun

Once the most sacred site of the Inca Empire, Qoricancha was dedicated to the sun god Inti. Its walls were once covered in sheets of gold, reflecting its spiritual and political importance. After the conquest, the Santo Domingo Convent was built atop its foundations, creating a powerful symbol of cultural fusion between the Inca and Spanish worlds.

โœ… Sacsayhuamรกn

A colossal ceremonial fortress overlooking Cusco, Sacsayhuamรกn is famed for its massive stone walls, with blocks weighing over 120 tons fitted together without mortar. It showcases the incredible engineering skills of the Incas and offers sweeping views of the city. It is also the main site for the Inti Raymi (Festival of the Sun) every June 24.

โœ… Qโ€™enqo

This mysterious ritual site features subterranean galleries, zigzag channels carved into rock, and a ceremonial altar. It was likely used for offerings and mummification rituals. Its name, meaning โ€œlabyrinth,โ€ reflects its sacred and symbolic layout.

โœ… Puca Pucara

Translating to "Red Fortress" due to the pinkish hue of its stones at sunset, Puca Pucara served as a military checkpoint and resting place for Inca travelers. It features terraces, walls, and stairways, and offers scenic views of the surrounding valley.

โœ… Tambomachay

Known as the โ€œTemple of Water,โ€ Tambomachay was a site of worship and purification for the Incas. It features fine stonework, aqueducts, and fountains that still flow today. The site reflects the Inca reverence for water and their mastery of hydraulic engineering.

โœ… Pisac Archaeological Site

Perched on a mountain slope, Pisac is one of the Sacred Valleyโ€™s most impressive Inca complexes. It includes agricultural terraces, temples, ceremonial buildings, and sweeping views of the valley below. Its strategic location and design show the Inca's understanding of astronomy, agriculture, and defense.

โœ… Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo is the best-preserved example of an Inca city still inhabited today. Its archaeological site features massive terraces, religious temples, and the iconic Temple of the Sun. The site was a key military, spiritual, and agricultural center and played a pivotal role during the Spanish conquest.

โœ… Machu Picchu

The crown jewel of Peru, Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city built atop a mountain at 2,430 meters (7,970 ft). It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The citadel includes temples, agricultural terraces, astronomical observatories, and sacred stonesโ€”all set in a breathtaking natural setting of cloud forest and towering peaks.
